Computing and ICT have changed significantly over the past couple of years. There is now a greater emphasis on computational thinking and understanding how a computer works rather than just being able to use different pieces of software. In KS3 We aim to give a balanced introduction to Computer Science, Digital Literacy and E-Safety. As students move into KS4 we aim to give the students the chance to opt to take Computer Science or an ICT based course depending on their aspirations. At KS5 students can choose to develop their computing skills by taking A Level Computer Science.

Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 you will study a variety of topics that cover both Computing and ICT. Such topics will include; programming, algorithms, computer hardware and how to use a variety of software/applications for different tasks such as formally presenting information, website design, image manipulation and data handling/modelling.
Key Stage 4
GCSE Computer Science
The course develops critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills through the study of computer programming, giving students a fun and interesting way to develop these skills, which can be transferred to other subjects and even applied in day-to-day life. It also covers how computers can communicate and represent data.
Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Digital Applications (CiDA)
The Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Digital Applications has been designed to engage and enthuse young people with an interest in creative computing, for example digital graphics and animations, interactive multimedia products and computer games.
The course is currently graded at A*, A, B and C.
Students must complete 2 units to gain the qualification.
Unit 1 (website design) is a practical examination of 2 ½ hours which is set and marked externally by Edexcel. Students will be expected to design and build a website for a client brief which will count for 25% of the final grade.
Unit 3 (Artwork and Imaging) requires students to create a series of products for a given scenario ensuring they meet the needs of the target audience. This will involve manipulating a variety of vector and bitmap images using different software whist documenting the design process. Their products and documentation will be presented in an E-portfolio that is worth 75% of the marks.
A Level Computer Science
This course will build upon the knowledge gained from GCSE Computer Science, It will take a more in-depth look at the components necessary for a Computer to work and what their functions are. It will also cover more advanced programming techniques in order to prepare students to create their own piece of custom written software.
